We were driving on Saturday about 65 mph up a slight incline and all of a sudden nothing other than a sharp engine rev. Rolled to a stop, no forward or reverse. Towed in.

Answer from the dealership, an internal fault. Need to replace the whole tranny. Estimate is $3500. We have around 66K miles, it seems like a poor answer and the price seems high. The positive is it comes with a 3 yr 36k warranty. Oh boy!

Does anybody know if there is anything special to this tranny that requires it to be done at the dealer? Has anybody had their tranny rebuilt? There has to be a cheaper alternative.

Getting a tranny shop to do a rebuild gives you the opportunity to have them use heavy-duty parts. If the job is done right, you will have a stronger than new transmission.

Like Klaus said having a tranny shop do it you will end up with better parts. My truck has been in the shop going on three weeks now for the same problem. They do not know what caused the failure. I only had 17k on mine when it went. I am getting a remanufactured tranny out of it but like I said it has been three weeks. Granted, almost two weeks of it has been waiting for the new tranny to be shipped to HI. It should be in today or tomorrow. Wish you the best of luck on this endeavor.http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/t...1/m/1421091351

Here is my post about the issue and what others have said.

Find a GOOD transmission shop if you are not going to use the SRTA Goodwrench transmission. Oh, and it is now a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty on SRTA's.

The trans is a M32 4L65E trans, not the lighter version M30 4L60E. There is a difference.

Found a tranny shop. Hopefully reliable. They supposedly work on the H1's from the base here in town. Hopefully a good one. Fortunately I have not needed a transmission shop so no past experiences to rely on.

Will find out what happened in the morning.

We did have one additional setback today though. The towing company that was moving it from the dealership to the tranny shop managed to find an awning. I haven't seen the damage but supposedly the guard in front of the sunroof and the crossbars sustained some damage. Towing company has said they are taking responsibility, we shall see how all of this works out.

My poor H2. Nothing like getting kicked when you are down.

Racer-X

You have been much more active under your name than I have been. I am willing to change my name, you can keep your name and logo. Just have to figure out how to do it.

Well tranny shop took a look and said it was thrashed. Not moving any fluid for some reason. Still not sure how it happened. They said this is the first time to see this while not hauling a load. As was mentioned previously, the rebuild will be beefer so that is a plus, still going to be north of 2K but beefer with a 2/24k warranty. Hopefully it will hold me until the redesign with the diesel finally makes it to the market.

As for the towing damage, they basically cleaned off the top of the truck but didn't dent the roof. Lights, wind deflector, onstar antenna and crossbar.

My poor truck is really suffering.

Racer-X, you can have it. You are much more established, no loss for me to change.
