Hello Tuomas

I haven´t heard about the speed limiter. Is it for cars that are registered as an truck or is it all passenger cars that are over 3500kg?? If it is just trucks I will register my car as an passenger car that it was from beginning when I bought it from Sweden.

Maybe it is just new trucks, I can´t belive that old trucks must have this.

Hey Tomas,

I have called AKE quite a few times and the law has actually been active for over an year now. But the limiters have been delayed by the manufacturer, so AKE will require is to be active in all vehicles registered as trucks by 1.1.2006 or 2007 (can't remember this). All new trucks over 3500kg must have it before they they can be registered. I don't know about Åland vehicle law, but if it is the same as in Finland, H2 can't be registerd as passenger car because it is not EU approved passenger vehicle. It can be done but basically most of the H2's parts must be tested in approved laboratory like VTT here in Helsinki. This can cost up to a 1M€ to do. This is the same procedure what all car manufacturers must do before they can sell their cars in Europe. If for some reason you would get the H2 registered as passeger vehicle you will lose the tax benefits of the vehicle. That means that is your company for example owns the H2, you will not be able deduct taxes from the gas-prices etc etc. Again I do not know about the Åland vehicle law, that is, is it the same than in rest of the Finland, but the speed limiter is for sure. Check out the link below and read § 24.
