Default Re: For you that Pray!

We're saying prayers for your dad here, too, Wayne. My best advise regarding rehab ... PLEASE make sure you have someone there with your dad at all times. Whether it's a relative or a hired nurse or nurses assistant... someone needs to be there to make sure he's getting his meds .. to make sure he's getting the CORRECT meds .. to make sure he's being turned so not to develop bed sores, etc. Once the hospital puts a patient into rehab, it has to do with insurance, but also because a patient's immune system is lowered due to illness or surgery that they are vulnerable to picking up something. I had an immediate family member in the hospital for 2 months (2 weeks in ICU, 2 weeks in PCU .. and the rest of the time on the medical floor). The staff was afraid something else could be picked up from being in there so long. I know that to be true now after hearing and reading so much about staph infections among long term hospital patients. But, back to the rehab. You need to be your dad's advocate and make sure someone is with him overseeing. If a family member can't be with him 24/7 .. and if one of you can't pay for a nurse or aid to be there overseeing, then split the cost among the immediate family members and get one. If someone isn't there physically with the recooperating family member, they will be overlooked much of the time. Good luck to you. Our prayers are with your family and dad. Please keep us updated, Wayne.
