Default Re: Tire Chains

Chains arrived today...they'll come in handy at some point. So, I'll just include them in my 'winter kit.'

Going to look into siping for general winter season driving.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback/input on this.

Question on Siping. I have Nitto Mud Grapplers. I've heard you shouldn't sipe those since the tread is chunky and the rubber is soft. Is this true? Anyone have their grapplers siped?

Heard chunks can break off.

What do you mean sears brand? Like you mean they are made by sears and only sold in sears. I didn't know that, guess I might scratch those of my list. If cooper, mickey Thompson, and pro comp are owned by sears, then that is news to me and none of those for me!

No...not made by Sears. I just always equate them with Sears, since Sears pushes them like Craftsman and Kenmore. Every pair of Coopers I've seen (at least that I've noticed) have been badly worn and looked like they've worn badly.

I could be dead wrong on Coopers...but I'll still stick with BFG.

Would you think toyo mts with extra siping would pretty good in winter driving? Better than coops? I need to buy tires asap as I nearly wrecked twice with my worn down stock at's. I am set on either bfg AT 37 or STT's but if there are any sugestions let me know. I did consider pro comp xtreme mt or at but I actually heard the pro comp AT isn't all that great in wet or winter driving.

I support Sears because they keep benefits and pay going when employees are called to battle. I think that is great.

I have no opinion on Cooper tires though.

I would say stay away from chains unless going very slow through deep snow. Like if you live in Alaska or equivalent... Aside from tire damage, I had a friend who had chains on his pick up truck, and one broke and wadded the quarter panel up like it was made of tin foil.
